The Children’s Place Case Study

New retail store format blitz in Dallas market presents significant challenges for retailer.

The Children’s Place Retail Stores, Inc. is a leading specialty retailer of children’s merchandise. The company designs, contracts to manufacture and sells high-quality, value-priced merchandise under the proprietary “The Children’s Place” brand name. Company owns and operates 926 The Children’s Place stores primarily in malls and outlet centers throughout North America. It also sells apparel online. The Children’s Place outfits children from newborn to 14 years old in its own brand of apparel and accessories.

A particular challenge for this retailer was the launch of a new store concept in five new concurrent openings in the Dallas market in the face of a protracted economic downturn. Company executives wanted to seize upon the opportunity to demonstrate to the industry the retailer’s success in revitalizing its operations through positive sales & marketing results as well as gains in cost containment.

SolSource Logistics in collaboration with the retailer’s strategic sourcing group devised a hybrid solution to contend with the various demands of last minute design changes, vendor community production delays, an accelerated build out schedule, concurrent grand openings and heavy internal executive cost scrutiny.

SolSource was able to deliver all owner furnished items to each project site without incident and delivered to The Children’s Place a 16% cost reduction while helping insure a successful grand opening schedule.
